SHADOW BROOK SHARKS SWIM TEAM

Children and grandchildren of Shadow Brook members and children of Associate members, aged 18 years and younger, are eligible to join swim team. As a Cabana swim team, the Sharks' main objective is to have fun both in the water and out, and throughout the season we plan events and activities to encourage team spirit and friendship.

On our serious side, swim team practices are challenging, with workouts designed to condition our swimmers and help improve their skills. As a member of the San Jose Cabana League, the Sharks have the chance to improve upon their own recorded times in friendly competition with five other local teams.

Our season runs from mid April until mid July and features a Time Trials, five Saturday meets where the Sharks swim against a single team, and one final Championship meet where all six teams swim together. For some meets we travel away to other Cabanas, and for the remaining meets we stay home at Shadow Brook.

At dual meets and Champs, both individual events and relay events are swum. At any meet, a swimmer may compete in a maximum of three individual events, and must compete in at least one individual event to be eligible to take part in a relay. Swimmers swim within their own age group which is established by the swimmer’s actual age as of May 31st, and may swim Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, or Butterfly. A swimmer must compete in at least one event in at least three meets to be eligible to swim at Champs.

Swimmer age groups are:

At Shadow Brook, our 6 and under swimmers practice as "Thresher" Sharks, our 7/8 year olds as "Mako" Sharks, our 9/10 year olds as "Tiger" Sharks, our 11/12 year olds as "Hammerhead" Sharks, and our senior swimmers as "Great White" Sharks!
